Toyota cars from Japan
Toyota is Japan's best-selling brand and the largest share of what passes through Japan's used-car auctions every week, so it is usually the easiest make to source in the grade, colour and mileage you want. The range buyers ask us for splits into three groups: economical hybrids and compacts (Aqua, Prius, Vitz/Yaris, Corolla), family and commercial vans (Noah/Voxy, Sienta, HiAce, Probox) and 4x4s (Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser 200/300, Land Cruiser 70, Hilux).
Several of these are built mainly for the Japanese market, such as the Alphard/Vellfire, Noah/Voxy, Aqua and Probox, which is why Japan is the main source for them worldwide. Toyota parts and mechanics are available almost everywhere, which keeps running costs predictable for importers in East Africa, South Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
Japan's shaken roadworthiness inspection (first at three years, then every two) and the country's low average annual mileage mean many cars reach auction with a documented history and modest kilometres for their age. On hybrids, ask for the auction sheet's notes on the hybrid system and battery; on 4x4s, look for underbody rust and evidence of off-road use.
Price bands in our catalog run from about $2,000 FOB for an older Aqua, Vitz or Probox to $40,000–$50,000 for a late Land Cruiser 200 or a new Land Cruiser Prado 250, and $60,000–$85,000 for the Land Cruiser 70 reissue. Clean export examples typically carry auction grades of 3.5 to 4.5. Models such as the Aqua, Noah/Voxy, Alphard/Vellfire and Probox were built mainly for the Japanese market, so Japan is where most right-hand-drive stock is. The Hilux, Land Cruiser and Prado are also built in export versions for other markets. Our country guides list Toyotas among the most popular imports in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Jamaica: the Aqua, Yaris and Corolla Fielder for economy, the Probox for business use and the Hilux for work.
We track 29 Toyota models from model years 1993 to 2026. Recent Japanese auction prices run from about $2,000 to $500,000 FOB, depending on model, grade and mileage (estimates, as of 2026-07-01).
Right-hand or left-hand drive?
Japan drives on the left, so Japanese-market cars are right-hand drive. That makes them a natural fit for RHD countries such as the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. We do not convert steering, so check that your country accepts RHD imports before you buy.
